As I was conducting a little research on a completely different topic, I ran across a toy that was released a couple of years ago, the Wild Planet Spy Video Car. This four pound RC unit intrigued me because, not only did it come with a spy camera, but this camera also had a night vision feature. Pretty cool! This immediate grabbed my attention and I wanted to learn more about it.
The Wild Planet Spy Video Car has measurements of 7.2 inches by 11.1 inches by 19 inches and weighs about 4 pounds. It lists for $159.99 but you can find it in department stores for about $100 and online for around $70. It comes with a car, a head set, a built in ΒΌ VGA camera with night vision and remote control.
Now for the pros and cons. I love that this car comes with a headset that has a flip down screen with night vision. I also like that concept behind the cars designs. On the other hand, you need to buy 12 AA batteries to operate this toy, it is a little on the expensive side for what you get, the resolution of the night vision camera is poor and it has a very limited remote control range, only about 15 feet. The remote control capabilities of this unit is so weak that if your rc car goes behind a wall the car does not respond well to your directions. Overall I recommend that you wait until the technology is developed a little further before investing in a night vision rc car.
