Summer tips for remote control cars and toys…

July is a hot month for family fun, as well as a hot month for weather. If you like to work with your RC cars in the summer months you need to be careful. You could end up damaging your RC vehicle or your health.

When temperatures start to rise they create several problems. First of all you remote controlled vehicles are more like to overheat and your paint jobs are more likely to fade. Also as the temperatures start to go up you run the risk of getting a sun burn or experiencing a heat related illness.

To protect your RC vehicle from damage you will want to either run it in the shade or run it before 11:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m. when the sun’s rays are not driectly overhead. This strategy will also help to protect you from being over exposed to the sun’s heat and rays. You can further protect your health by drinking plenty of fluid while playing with your RC units.

Now it’s time to dish. Tell me about your favorite summer RC event, activity or tip. I am waiting for your stories and so our my readers…

One tip I have heard if you are using an electric rc car in the heat is to keep the battery packs cool.

Apparently, putting them in the fridge before use means the battery will perform better as cooler the battery the more performance it will give!

Yes, and that is true of all batteries. I keep all my batteries in the refrigerator. They last longer that way.

Don’t we have special battery coolant for RC cars? they are so much fun but we have to preserve them also, its a sophisticated device to entertain you.I also would like to know how to improve the performance of RC cars over a period of time?

I don’t know if you are interested in nitro or electric, but here is a page on how to maintain gas powered RC cars.

It imperrative, with all rc cars, that batteries, motors and engines run as cool as possible.

I remember from when I was younger there was a tip where you put your batteries in the fridge before using them so they would perform better.

It is also important to let not overheat nitro rc car engines as they risk seizing where the piston expands and seizes in the engine bore.

To prevent this happening, avoid using to high nito levels in fuel, especially in the heat. The higher the level of nitro in the fuel, the less lubrication there is so there is more chance of the engine over heating.

    Cheers

Between the Fiat 500 and the Alfa MiTo (to say nothing of the Lancia Ypsilon), Italy’s got plenty of Mini rivals on the road. But it could gain another, if emerging reports prove accurate in the long run. The rumors center around the revived De Tomaso. The dormant sportscar marque was recently acquired by one Gianmario Rossignolo, a former chief executive of Lancia who was previously linked to a take-over of Bertone. Rossignolo has some ambitious plans in place for his new company, acquiring a former Pininfarina factory in the Piedmont region of Italy, where he reportedly plans on building a line of sportscars, luxury sedans and sport-utes. Now reports suggest a premium hatchback to rival the Mini could be in the cards as well.

We have a confession to make. We’ve been smitten with this car since first stumbling across it on Fantasy Junction earlier this year. The 1953 Siata 208S you see above is one of 35 ever created, and this particular example has an unmatched ownership pedigree. Its first owner was none other than Cool himself, Steve McQueen. If that’s not enough to send your eyebrows to your hairline, have a listen to the little roadsters specs. Under the hood you’ll find a Fiat 2.3-liter V8 that has been reworked to produce around 137 horsepower at the rear wheels. There’s no word on how much the thing weighs, but we’re guessing the figure is somewhere between packing peanuts and meringue. Pure. Driving. Joy.
