I’d like to take a couple weeks off from writing rc cars hobby reviews. This week I’d like to explore how to build a race track for your rc cars. You can use this track for your own races or you can open it up to the public and make money on the weekends.
The first step in building a race track for rc nitro cars is to figure out where you want to build the track. Outdoor tracks take at least a quarter acre. If you don’t have this type of space then look at building an indoor race track in your garage or basement.
Next you will want to construct the track. If you are outside you can just use hard packed dirt for the base of the track. Include in your track’s design hills, turns and straight-a-ways. You may also want to design some hazards that you can add to the track for higher level racers. However, make sure these hazards can be removed so that novice racers can also play on the track.
Step three is to think about the lighting for your track. Outdoor tracks don’t necessarily need lighting, however, if you want to use the track at night then flood lights can be helpful. Also think about adding neon signs for decoration, lighting, advertising and atmosphere. Finally, look into a scale model of a starting light.
Do you have tips for building a race track for RC car models? Are there products that you would recommend for an outdoor or indoor track? Do you have a track that you would like to recommend or promote? Post all of your comments below. Let’s start a dialogue.
