Last week we talked about the NASCAR Street Tour. This week I’d like to talk about another racing industry event, the NASCAR Goody’s Cool Orange 500. This event is scheduled for March 30, 2008 at the Martinsville Speedway in Virginia. The race starts at 1:30, but you will want to get there a lot earlier to get yourself a famous Martinsville hot dog, something cold to drink and find your seats.
The Martinsville Speedway is a high action racetrack. It is the shortest track in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Circuit and it is basically two 800 foot long drag strips with a tight turn around on each end. This means that there will be plenty of pushing and shoving, bumping and grinding, and general chaos on the track.
If you don’t live near the track then you will want to make plans for either staying at a local hotel or reserving a campsite. There are several reserved space campgrounds located near the track, as well as some general admission campgrounds. The reserved site campgrounds will require you to reserve your space in advance and you will also need a race ticket to get in. If you don’t have time to reserve a campsite for your RV or tent, then you will need to go to the general admission campgrounds. These dole out spaces on a first come first serve basis and will cost you about $150. Some of the reserved site and general admission campgrounds you can choose from include: BackStretch Reserved Campground, Third Turn Reserved Campground, North Reserved Lot and General Admission Campsite.
NASCAR is one of my favorite racing circuits. They offer a great selection of races that include stock cars and truck races. These races can be a great event for RC car lovers. Here RC hobbyists can pick up driving tricks and race strategies.
