Shipping and Moving RC Cars Tips

Shipping your RC cars safely…

Keeping your RC cars safe when you are moving them from one place to another can be a little tricky. This is especially true if you need to transport your remote control vehicles over a long distance. Fortunately there are ways to keep your RC investments safe.

The first step is to determine if it is better to carry the vehicle with you or to ship it ahead of you. If you are flying to your destination then shipping the item is generally a better option then taking it with you. However, if you are only going across town or across the state then you are generally better off just taking your vehicle with you.

If you need to ship your RC cars then you will need to invest in quality shipping supplies. You will need bubble wrap, tape and a sturdy box. To protect your vehicle you will want to first secure the antennae to the top of your vehicle with a little transparent tape. Next you will roll your vehicle in bubble wrap and tape the wrap snuggly around your vehicle. Then you will place the vehicle in a box that is just large enough to contain the wrapped RC vehicle. Then close the box and secure it with packing tape. You can use the same packing technique to protect your remote control vehicle when you take it with you to its new location.

When your RC car or truck gets to its new location you will want to be careful when unwrapping it. Gently remove the tape that is holding down the antennae to avoid snapping it off. If adhesive is left over on the vehicle you can dip the end of a cotton swab in baby oil and rub the sticky spot. This will remove the glue.

That is really good advice, the sturdy box is a must! I prefer foam padding to bubble wrap as i find it is better at keeping the car from rattling around in the box.

Wrapping in bubble wrap is a good idea, as is then placing the vehicle in a big box filled with packing peanuts. Then you can take your car and drive though them and have fun popping the bubbles as well.

I already tried all this and I must say it’s quite a big fun to do it! I can only recommend it to anyone. Enjoy…

Use the bigger bubble wrap (and not the smaller kind). The larger bubbles will protect it better during shipping.

Yes, I have found that larger bubble wrap is the best. When I was moving across country years ago noticed that he packers only used this type of material. Another trick that they had was to use my throw pillows around large items such as lamps and statues in the boxes as a cushion.

Bubble wrap is supposed to protect the goods inside it without any problems but many people are skeptic and prefer to have pillows or lots of cloth around the bubble wrap as well.

I remember when I was younger, I used to fly to London to see my father every holiday and I used to take my rc cars in the hold with me.

But If you are putting them in the hold then as stated above, it is a good idea to wrap them in bubble wrap, put them in a box and place a fragile sign on them just to make sure that they are treated gently!

    Cheers

Thanks for the tip about using a cotton swab with baby oil. Im going to give a try.

I always swear by a sturdy cardboard box (double thick walls) that is plenty big enough for the car and a load of flo-pack packing material packed around it. This cushions it against any shocks and guarantees that the car arrives intact.

Crumble newspaper between the bubble-wrapped RC cars… that’s the trick.

I always used lighter fluid to remove tape, but I can see how baby oil would be much gentler to the surface. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for giving such wonderful tips on safely packing the RC cars. Wrapping it in bubble wrap really sounds to be a good idea. I have never heard about using baby oil for removing the tape but it seems to be a good idea. Sometime back I also read that cotton buds soaked in white spirit are perfect for cleaning specific areas of RC car. I have a huge collection of RC cars and these tips are really useful for me.
