Product reviews has been the main focus of this blog for the last few months, and I’d like to continue that focus. Today, I will be talking about the Factory Team RC181T Kit produced by Associated Electrics, Inc. This is a remote control truck kit and not a complete car.
The Factory Team RC181T Kit is a great starter kit for people interested in building their own rc truck. It lists for $229.99 and measures 13.6 inches by 8.3 inches by 4.2 inches and weighs in at about 1.9 pounds. Included in this kit are: blue aluminum threaded chocks, heat sink motor mount, titanium turn buckles, 18T wheels, dogbones, M3 lock nuts and carbide steel differential balls.
Now, let’s get down to the nitty gritty. What I like about this kit is that it creates a tight little RC truck that is powerful, durable and highly maneuverable. What I don’t like about this kit is that the steering has a tendency to get a little loose, especially when assembled by novice hobbyists. Also, since this is a kit and not a complete car, you will need to invest about another $200 to build a functional vehicle. The parts that you will need to buy to complete the kit include: a motor, speed controller, servo, receiver and batteries. When all is said and done you will spend at least $430 for this vehicle, which is a little pricey for my taste.
Associated Electronics, Inc. is known for the quality of their kits and products. However, with quality comes a high price tag, which is seen in this electric rc car kit. Next week we will start a series of product reviews on toddler friendly rc cars.
