RC Car Drifting: Discover an Interesting and Challenging Hobby

What is RC Car Drifting about and how to start?

How you can make the most out of your interest
in RC cars by exploring drifting...

Do you enjoy remote controlled cars? Do you want to take your hobby to a new level? If so, then remote controlled car drifting might be worth exploring.

In an RC drifting competition, your car is not timed. Instead, you're judged on line, angle, speed, and show factor. A line is a predetermined direction that your car needs to take; the more closely you follow it, the better your performance.

When your car is drifting, you also need to increase your angle of drift as much as possible.

Speed is also taken into account; the faster your car goes into a turn, and the faster it completes the turn and exits, the better your results.

The car's show factor is essentially its style of drift, including how much smoke there is and how dramatic it looks. You can drift an rc car on a track or off-road, in a formal contest or just as a fun and challenging way to spend time with friends.

So, how do you get started?
First, decide on the type of RC drift car you want to use for drifting. You can choose between a gas or nitro powered remote control car and an electric remote control car. A gas RC drift car runs the risk of engine overheat while drifting. Moreover, the gas RC drift car's clutch could get damaged. With an electric RC car, you will not have these problems.

To convert your rc car into a drift car, the only car parts or accessories you will need are a set of low-grip tires for easier drift. You can make your own tires out of PVC pipe, or you can purchase pre-made low-grip tires. Look here for low-grip RC car tires.

You can also buy pre-made rc cars or trucks. You can find plenty of them here at our RC Cars Discount Store.

A few other suggestions might help you build a great RC drift car. Take care to keep the car's weight down to a minimum; heavy and bulky vehicles make poor drift cars. Make your chassis stiffer so that the car can endure the drifting.

Once you have your drift car, you can learn how to drift by first driving it in a straight line, then gradually weaving it until you see that the back tires are starting to lose traction. Note the "grip points" where the car does this and then try the same thing again at a faster speed.

The goal in drifting is to get control of your car once it has lost traction; you need to be able to maintain a sideways drift and turn the car in this mode. It takes time and practice to learn, but the more you keep at it, the more you will enjoy it.
