Micro RC Helicopters

Pros and Cons of Micro RC Helicopters

Good things in small packages...

Micro RC helicopters took quite some time to develop. This may seem strange to remote control operators that have been playing with micro remote controlled cars, planes and boats for years. It took longer to develop good micro RC helicopters because the technology required for keeping a helicopter in flight is far more complicated that the technology used for micro cars, planes and boats.

Micro RC helicopters come in several varieties. The first option is a coaxial rotor model. This variety of micro RC helicopter has two main rotor systems. Each one spins in a different direction, which stabilizes the helicopter and eliminates the need for a tail rotor. This is a great design to work with when you first try out the micro RC helicopters. One example of this design is the Blade mCX.

While the coaxial rotor design will offer you in flight stability, it is not the only option that you have. You can also select a fixed pitch design like the Wikera 4#3B. This design utilizes a four blade, single main rotor system. It is so tiny that it can fit in the palm of your hand.

When shopping for micro RC helicopters you have a couple of remote control units to choose between. The first option is the traditional radio control unit. The radio control unit will have a four to seven channel system and it will include multiple control levers and joysticks. The second option is an infrared controller unit. This type of controller will most likely come with the most inexpensive micro units.

Most people who select micro RC helicopters do so because they are very inexpensive, especially when compared to traditional remote controll helicopters. If you enjoy RC toys and are looking for an inexpensive option to expand your collection, or if you just want to learn how to control an RC helicopter without having to worry about crashing and damaging a $300 model, then micro units are a great option. They also work well for kids that are just starting to learn how to operate flying RC toys.

Micro RC helicopters make great gifts. They are the perfect size for stocking stuffers and they are cheap enough for small birthday presents to friends and relatives. They also make a great gift for stress relief, as they can easily fit into your office desk drawer or your locker.
