Not Just Another Name for Nitro Cars:
Learn About the Separate Class of Gas Engine RC Vehicles

It might surprise you to know that not all fuel-powered RC cars are nitro cars. Even though nitro remote control cars are sometimes colloquially referred to as gas RC cars, there is in fact a separate class of vehicles called gas engine remote control cars. Instead of running on the standard RC car fuel mixture of nitromethane, methanol, and castor oil, the true gas powered RC cars use actual gasoline! This is an emerging class of vehicles, and it carries some distinct advantages with it.

Gas engine radio controlled cars have several distinct advantages over nitro powered vehicles. First, because they're bigger, they can hold more fuel in their gas tanks. Vehicles like the Duratrax 2WD FireHammer MT can run on the same tank of fuel for a half-hour-- compared to an average of ten minutes for most nitro radio control cars. A gas engine RC car also uses conventional regular unleaded gasoline-- which will cost you a lot less than the nitro fuel mixture, because it's more readily available at a gas station near you. All the parts of gas engine remote control cars are larger-- which means it's easier to maintain them and detect any problems if they arise.

Furthermore, you'll get most gas engine RC cars ready-to-run-- no assembly or special parts required! You won't need to break in your engine before operating the car-- something that nitro car owners must do. Here's what you will need: some AA batteries (in most cases) for the motor-- because these cars use batteries as well as fuel-- some 2-cycle engine oil, and some spare spark plugs in case the ones in your car malfunction or expire. A quick way to distinguish nitro cars from gas engine remote control cars is to see if they use glow plugs or spark plugs. If they use glow plugs, they're nitro cars. If they use spark plugs, they're gas engine RC cars.

So if you want a tough, huge, thrilling vehicle with lower long-term fuel and maintenance costs-- and if you're ready for the challenges of owning one-- then gas engine remote control cars might be great radio control cars and trucks to add to your RC hobby.
